Gummy Vitamins and the pill

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 9:05 AM
I wanted to find a good adult gummy vitamin. I am female, not at risk for osteoperosis, and am dealing with fatigue. I am thinking I am iron deficient -- or maybe nutritionally deficient all around.

Can anyone recommend a gummy vitamin that has iron in it? What store carries them? Is there one that has 100% of essentially everything?

Also, does the pill help with PMS mood swings? I get terrible, almost debilitating depression right before my period and wanted to know how I can stop this.

Thanks.

Hello all, I'll just get straight down to the point. Just looking for maybe a few opinions before I decide on anything.

Until recently, I've had very regular periods. The last year has been extremely stressful and I had a significant amount of weight gain. In May, after stopping my birth control pills I haven't had a period since. I am sexual active (we use condoms) and I've taken four pregnancy tests, all negative. Two weeks ago, after sex, I began bleeding, quite a bit. There was no pain, no pain during sex or after. I figured it was just my period finally catching up; it lasted a few days and that was it. Last week I started bleeding again and again it tappered off. A few days ago the same thing. It just keeps coming and going varying between light and heavy.

Would it be a good time to make an appointment? That was my original idea, but cash is very low and Id jus tlike maybe a second opionion so to speak (i know you're not medical professionals, but thank you very much in advanced)
Senate tables Nelson's abortion amendment 54-45
The Hill Blog
By Michael O'Brien - 12/08/09 05:33 PM ET

Senators voted Tuesday afternoon to set aside a healthcare amendment that would have curbed federal support for abortion coverage.

Senators voted to table a measure from Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Pa.) that would have banned the government from offering insurance plans in a national healthcare exchange that cover abortion.

The amendment, which needed 60 votes to pass and was not expected to be adopted, was tabled in a 54-45 vote.

STDs and sexual health during cunnilingus

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Okay so this a bit of a stupid question but I'm going to sum up the courage and ask it anyway.

I'm a bisexual female who has thus far only had sex with males. I've been flirting with a female friend and next week we're going on holidays where we will most likely take the flirting further. In situations with males I am aware of STDs and I always make sure we use condoms and are safe.

However, I'm not sure what to do in a situation with another female. I've asked friends, all of whom are straight, who told me that I shouldn't worry because if I get an STD it will be from a male and not a female. However, that doesn't seem particularly right to me. Yes I am not a total imbecile and have used google, however, and I have stumbled across something called a dental dam which I have never seen before. Wouldn't that dull all senation though? And where would I get one? Are my friends right in saying that I wont need protection if I'm with another female?
What would you recomend I do?

We had sex monday morning, we didnt use a condom. its now saturday. today i have decided i have a UTI bc it just burns down there and it burns when i pee. i told my guy that i think i have another uti bc about 3-4 weeks ago i had a UTIbut i was clean and im never dirty so i was like wtf. well he told me that since we had sex the past few days he had burning sensation when he peed and it was unusual for him. so now im kinda worried bc the recent time i have had problems he hasnt and now we BOTH have the same symptoms. could he possiablly have a UTI also?

like im sitting down right now and it burns down there. i kinda haev the urge to pee when i stand up but nothing hardcore to make me run to the bathroom. it does burn when i pee. my urine is cloudy and very little.

im pretty embarassed and i hope its just a UTI.

should I worry?
i dont think im on my parents insurance and i dont have 125 bucks to go to plan parenthood.
so im just going to drink water, cranberry juice, and take those AZO cranberry pills.

any suggestions or help please

I'm scared.

I have a feeling that I am really unhealthy. My weight is an issue. Tomorrow I am starting a "diet" to count my calories, and exercise for at least 30 mins a day, 5 days a week. I'm addicted to caffine. I can drink up to 4 or 5 sodas a day. And if I don't have a soda, I go through caffine withdrawals, and end up having really horrible migraine headaches for days, and eventually just throwing up until I get a coke. Do you guys know of anything that can help out with caffine withdrawals? I'm going for the no soda thing if you guys didn't catch on.

I'm really scared, meh. :(

I would rather go through horrible headaches than be overweight, but.. I end up giving in and grabbing a coke and downing some asprin. I need an alternative.

Advice?

Hello!

I was just diagnosed (seriously, yesterday) with PCOS and hypothyroidism. I'm taking synthroid for the hypothyroidism and metformin for the PCOS as well as a preventative measure for diabetes (which I do not have but am at risk for if I do not take my meds/care of myself).

I bought the PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris for help in changing my dietary habits but I was wondering if there are any other books/websites that have recipes for people with PCOS. I've been looking into the GI diet because that's what seems to be the best option but I'm shit at planning meals and in order for me to stick with a diet, I need to do just that.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get, especially for websites.

Also... how does everyone find taking the metformin? My endo told me that if I ate foods that were too fatty (like some cheeses) I would have diarrhea (gross, I know... sorry) is that true? Can cheese never pass my lips again?

Sorry for bombarding you all with questions I just want to get this under control and do it the right way.

Thank you!

pcos + coffee

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 7:59 AM
Hello all,

I'm 25 and I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple years ago. I even had a cat scan that confirmed that yes, I have cysts on my ovaries.

Originally, my endocrinologist had me on metformin and Yasmin. The metformin never seemed to do anything at all -- and I was on a full dose for over a year (2000 mg?). Then one day my doctor said that new research came out that it was only really necessary for significantly overweight woman. I'm 5'3 and around 140 lbs, so I'm a little overweight but not significantly. So one day last summer, I simply stopped taking metformin, and I haven't gained any weight.

My main problems with PCOS seem to be acne and excess hair. I've been struggling with acne since middle school, and I always get it under control for a while (I've been on antibiotics for the past 11 years, have had blue light treatments, numerous facials...) and then I get a flair up again. Lately I've been thinking I need to seriously reevaluate my diet if I want to be rid of this. I'm vegetarian and am pretty conscientious about eating lots of fruit and veggies, but I do love coffee. Coffee with milk and sugar. I should add that I never have more than one cup a day, sometimes just a macchiato (espresso + little bit of steamed milk on top).

Is coffee very bad for women with PCOS? Who here still drinks coffee? What are the effects of drinking it for women with PCOS? Has going off it helped you?

World AIDS Day

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 3:31 PM
So, I posted it, deleted it, and now I'm re-posting it. I apologize in advance.

Since it's World AIDS Day, I was thinking about maybe getting tested today for HIV just to be safe and in the spirit, but I'm not sure there's really a need to. I haven't engaged in any risky business or unprotected sex since I was last tested (or, aside from the whole having-multiple-partners thing, EVER) in January (and had a minor heart attack over it), and I've only slept with 5 people... which for New York City, I don't think is a lot. I think I've had sex a total of 7 times with those 5 people - not 7 each, but 7 total.) I've spent half of this year being a slut (and I mean that word in the best of ways) and the other half I've spent being a prude (also meaning that in the best of ways). I'm just not sure I want to because of the anxiety attack that getting tested for it gives me, when chances are so slim-to-none.

(And yes, even the speed-test gives me anxiety too. I had that one the first time and the guy sat me down and said, "Well, you just failed your first HIV test!" ::crickets & I die:: "This is the kind of test you want to fail!")

And yes, I know I need immense amounts of therapy.

sex/period related questions

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 3:24 AM
Ok so here's the deal. I just lost my virginity a few weeks ago (I'm 18 btw). I'm on the pill and we used a condom every time we had sex. However, I wasn't taking the pills regularly...i was taking them everyday but always at different hours because i find it hard to remember. And for some reason everytime after we had sex (i KNEW he used a condom i saw him put it on and take it off) I felt like there was something seeping out of me as if it were cum or something (i'm sorry if this is disgusting)....but i feel like this is doubtful because we had sex about 6 times and he used a condom each time so the condom couldn't have broken 6 times. Anyway, i got my period last Saturday morning. It was the normal amount of bleeding i have every month. The regular bleeding stopped after about 3 or 4 days. It's been over a week and i'm still getting this brown stretchy kind of discharge. I just need a pantiliner it's that light. What could this mean?? i'm getting sort of worried.

I kind of have a second question too if it's ok.....we've done it six times and it still doesn't feel good for me. It feels *alright* but basically just feels like something going in and out of me that's all...nothing pleasurable. And he has had sex many, many times before so i know it's not just him being inexperienced. If it helps it does feel good when he fingers me just not when we actually have sex. I can't understand why it's not pleasurable for me and i'm starting to get frustrated.

I'm sorry if any of this isn't allowed! Thank you!

no! no!

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Anyone ever used one of those no! no! hair removal devices? I read a pretty good review of them in good housekeeping, which is making me consider it. I've noticed my leg and arm hair is thicker and coarser over the last few months and it's driving me crazy! I have to shave every single day to have smooth-ish legs, and even with that I have stubble by the end of the day if not earlier. It's so coarse that I just cannot get a close, smooth shave. I noticed it's not for use on the face, which is kind of a bummer, but I luckily don't have too much trouble with facial hair.

Thanks in advance for any advice, "no! no!" or otherwise!
Last Thursday, I went to Planned Parenthood for my annual checkup and to treat a UTI.

I wonder if anybody can help me.

For the past 6 years Ive been with one partner. He is my only ever partner and we are now engaged and looking to the future and maybe some time soon are wanting to start a family. I just have one concern, for the past 3-4 years we've never used contraception. I know its silly, but we only use the pull-out method. Now, I know there's always a chance of becoming pregnant using this method, but the thought has never crossed my mind until now. Because I've not had a pregnancy scare during this time, could this mean I may be infertile? I know that nothing can be certain and it may just be one of those things, but I've been thinking about it lately.

Hello Womens Health

My name is Sunny.. I joined this community cuz my mom is sick.. I've found these LiveJournal communities to be SO HELPFUL I wanted to try this.. Her problem is her liver.. She has been on a liver transplant list now for many many years.. She is now 69 years old and probably wont get a liver.. She has doctors who see her and have put her on all types of different medicines and stuff trying to help her and.. Well this "Lactulose" she's on now is not curing her problem.. She is 5'5 and she weighs 64 POUNDS!!! She is STARVING cuz her liver cant handle anything she eats.. EVERYTHING makes her sick.. She has been living on Oatmeal for two years now cuz its the only thing that doesnt make her sick.. Mom is STARVING!!! Fridge is full of food but there is nothing she can digest.. Any ideas to give her a little variety in her foods.. Maybe try to put a little weight on her.. I offered the idea of "Boost, or Ensure" but she is lactose intolerant and cannot have that.. She cant have soy.. She cant eat cream of wheat.. She cant have sweets.. She's STARVING!!! Any suggestions?? Please??
OK....I am in need of a decent book for eating a certain why during my usage of Met and trying to get rid of this weight along side this PCOS.

So what books do you find to be helpful? I tired WW. Yes, that is a fantastic program but it doesn't work with everyone. I was Points obsessive because I have a problem with OCD. Plus my Husband took his weight off at record speed and I was going soooooo slow because of course I was counting points but I wasn't eating the way I should be eating! So do recommend Weight Watchers. I have tried it with the meetings for a year, Online for half a year...and on my own for some time. Just because I was eating within points...doesn't mean I was eating the way I should be eating with PCOS. So the weight was coming off so slow. Plus with the IR I craved sweets and carbs ALL THE TIME. So that was soooo hard to combat. It eventually put me into a severe depression.

So what I am looking for is this:

A.) Something that is a bit more structured. Meaning: eat this not that and this is why...here is some food plans on how your own food plans should eventually work. I like that.

B.) I like books that kind of tell my why I need to eat a certain way. Give me a little background...just not 5 chapters of it lol.

c.) I need a book of methods, ideas, plans, tips, and all that jazz! I love information. It takes me a week to read Womens Health because I like to take my time to read every single detail and informative piece...I drag it out lol.

So yeah...give me some book ideas please! I want to pick up a book sometime tonight!

TIA!
